Remember Me?
May. 01, 2012
Fred Rogers enchanted children in "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood" from 1968 to 2001. He was an activist who lobbied Congress to raise public television funds and allow the VCR—both of which they did. Here are some more interesting stories about this remarkable man.
Rogers' car was once stolen. After he filed a police report, the media picked up the story. Within 48 hours, the car was returned with a note saying, "If we'd known it was yours, we never would have taken it."
When Rogers visited the famous gorilla Koko, he was surprised to learn she was a fan of his show and she promptly removed his shoes, as he did to open each episode.
Many found Rogers difficult to interview because he would begin asking the interviewers questions about themselves and their families.
