- Nursing homes embrace electronic records to help improve patient care

Electronic health-record systems that are becoming more common
among hospitals and medical clinics are gaining the attention of
companies that provide long-term care for the elderly. Golden
Living, whose 300 skilled-nursing facilities nationwide, is
installing a Microsoft Amalga system. The system, which will launch
in May, will gather patient data from various sources and formats
in one location.

living recipient of the WAMI Hall of Fame Award -- turns 97 on

Patches Fountain has a repertoire of tricks much like any dog.
She can sit on command, roll over and catch treats. She also can
steal your heart. "That's another trick of hers," said Stuart
Kanowitz, executive director of Golden LivingCenter-Fountainview
Place in Portage. With her tail wagging and eyes shining, the
3-year-old border collie and Dalmatian mix was officially adopted
by the Golden LivingCenter nursing home Thursday, welcoming her new
family along with the new year.

Golden LivingCenter in Tekamah is rolling out a new program to
help medical professionals in an emergency. The public is invited
to obtain a File of Life from the center. The File of Life contains
information such as medications, surgeries, doctor's information,
allergies and so much more. It is designed to be placed on a
refrigerator or similar convenient spot, where it can easily be
found in case of an emergency.

- Golden LivingCenter resident celebrates 100th birthday
Dec. 29, 2009
Gertrude Luebrecht, a resident at Golden Living-Pin Oaks is
celebrating her 100th birthday. She and her husband, Al, lived on a
farm at St. Clement. A birthday open house is being held from 2-4
p.m. today at the nursing facility.

- Golden LivingCenter honors 16 employees
Dec. 29, 2009
Golden LivingCenter of Greenville recently honored 16 associates
for their years of service. Hal Garland, executive director of the
center, presented Edible Arrangements and roses to associates with
five, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 years of service. Each associate
recieved an Edible Arrangement or a rose for each year of service.
The presentations were made during a ceremony attended by about 150
associates and their guests.

- Santa pays visit, lights tree at Golden LivingCenter
Dec. 18, 2009
Santa Claus paid a recent visit to Golden LivingCenter—Lexington
to participate in its annual holiday tree lighting. Residents and
their families were joined by staff and family members to ring in
the holiday season with refreshments, and carols were played by
several family members on the grand piano in the lobby. And,
of course, Santa had some early Christmas presents for young
children.

Cheryl Pablico, Director of Nursing for the Golden LivingCenter,
has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating
dedication, leadership and excellence in wound care.
Cheryl Pablico has five years of experience as Director of
Nursing for the Golden LivingCenter-Portico. She is responsible for
overseeing the intravenous nursing program, handling issues with
the staff, patients and their families, and discussing patient care
with physicians.

- Golden LivingCenter donates to Catherine McAuley House

The Golden LivingCenter of East Mountain, 101 East Mountain,
Plains Township, has donated $500 to the Catherine McAuley House in
Plymouth. The Catherine McAuley House is a temporary residence for
homeless women and children and the money will be used to provide
bus passes and phone cards for the residents.
