TARBORO, N.C., Aug. 20, 2013 — Golden LivingCenter - Tarboro of Tarboro, N.C., has been recognized as a 2013 recipient of the Gold - Excellence in Quality National Quality Award presented by the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL). The award is the industry’s highest quality honor.

GLC - Tarboro is one of only five Skilled Nursing Facilities of the more than 16,000 across the country to earn the distinguished award this year, and one of only 18 long term care centers to have ever received an award at this level since the inception of the National Quality Award program in 1996. Golden Living has earned a total of 300 AHCA/NCAL Bronze, Silver, and Gold Quality Awards since the program started.

“This is a remarkable accomplishment for Golden LivingCenter - Tarboro and for everyone associated with the facility,” said Neil Kurtz, M.D., President and CEO of Golden Living. “We couldn’t be more pleased and proud. I extend sincere and heartfelt congratulations to the entire staff of Golden LivingCenter - Tarboro for earning this award in recognition of their performance and commitment to quality. Over the years, they have worked diligently to attain this award, and it makes them the pride of Tarboro – and of Golden Living”

“This award validates the journey the staff here at Tarboro has taken to continuously improve the quality of the care we provide. I know our patients’ and residents’ lives have been positively impacted by the focus the AHCA Quality Award process has brought to our team,” says Executive Director Effie Webb. “When we found out our LivingCenter was a Gold recipient, the staff was extremely excited. We are like a family at GLC - Tarboro, and it means a lot to us to be nationally recognized for the commitment we have to our patients, this community, and each other.”

“The centers that have earned this award are a testament to what can be done when our focus remains on providing high quality, person-centered care,” said Mark Parkinson, President and CEO of AHCA/NCAL. “The staff, leadership, and community at Golden LivingCenter - Tarboro have improved the lives of their residents, and their commitment to quality deserves to be recognized.”

“Golden Living’s ownership has placed a strong emphasis on the continuous enhancement of the quality of our services, which is reflected in our culture and in the results we achieve for our patients and residents,” said Kurtz. “GLC - Tarboro’s honor is the latest recognition of the outstanding care provided by Golden Living employees that underscores the commitment to quality of our care.”

“This level of recognition again is clear proof of how our employees have embraced our values of integrity, accountability, excellence, and quality throughout the Golden Living organization,” added Kurtz.

The AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award program is based on the criteria of the nationally recognized Baldrige Performance Excellence Program. This progressive program, which encourages the continuous learning and development of long term and post-acute care facilities to achieve performance excellence, has three levels: Bronze, Silver, and Gold. At the Gold level, applicants must successfully address the Baldrige Health Care Criteria for Performance Excellence, which focus on the facility achieving a superior performance level in key operational, leadership, customer, and workforce areas.

A ceremony honoring the recipients of this year’s awards will be held at the AHCA/NCAL 64th Annual Convention and Exposition from Oct. 6-9 in Phoenix, Ariz.
