Golden Living and AseraCare Honor Veterans

Published November 09, 2015

PLANO, Texas, Nov. 9, 2015 – Golden Living, the country’s second largest skilled nursing healthcare provider, and AseraCare, one of the largest hospice providers, will honor hundreds of veteran patients and residents with Veterans Day pinning ceremonies and tributes scheduled throughout November at Golden LivingCenters and other AseraCare locations across the country.

Veterans Day pinning ceremonies from Massachusetts to California will take place at many of the 295 Golden LivingCenters with area AseraCare agencies organizing the event honoring our country’s heroes as part of the We Honor Veterans (WHV) partner program.
AseraCare is a level four partner in the We Honor Veterans (WHV) partner program sponsored by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Through this program, AseraCare has the professional and organizational capacity to provide quality services for veterans and their families.
“It is a privilege to serve and care for our veteran population. From our nurses and medical directors to our executive directors and office managers, we all salute our veteran patients, residents and employees this Veterans Day,” said Golden LivingCenters President Julianne Williams. “The liberty that we, as U.S. citizens, enjoy comes at a price paid by these valiant men and women. Let each of us make sure we do our part to recognize and support them throughout their lives. Please join us in honoring them this November.”
Local government officials and Veterans’ organizations have been invited to attend and participate. Many of the pinning ceremonies will include a veteran from the community to present a pin to our seniors who have served while surrounded by family and members of the community.
“It surprises many Americans to learn that 1,800 veterans die every day. This equals 25 percent of all people who die in the U.S. annually,” said AseraCare President Angie Hollis-Sells. “Many of our WWII and Korean War veterans are facing end-of-life care decisions now. This is why we have worked with We Honor Veterans to achieve the highest level of participation and partner with Golden LivingCenters to provide comfort and understanding of care for our veteran population.”
AseraCare organizes pinning ceremonies throughout the year in honor of veterans. November marks a special time to recognize veterans and their unique needs as they enter hospice or other specialized care.
Golden Living actively recruits and hires military veterans through conferences and tradeshows, networking and virtual job fairs. Active duty, military reservists and honored veterans working for Golden Living make up more than 10 percent of the workforce.
Golden Living’s community outreach and service to veterans supports the company’s mission to improve quality of life through innovative healthcare, one person, one family, and one community at a time.
